Urduliz, February 21st 2017. Lointek Heavy Industries (LHI) has been honoured in the spin-off (subsidiary) track of the ON Bizkaia 2017 awards. LHI started up two years ago to manufacture and supply large and heavy equipment (up to 2,000t, 150m in length and 12m in diameter). This proved unfeasible in the Urduliz factory and the company wanted to produce the equipment in Biscay. LHI’s 55,000 m2 site at the port of Bilbao loads directly onto cargo ship, enabling Lointek to access a new niche in the market and strengthen its export capacity.
The 2017 winners at the ON Bizkaia awards were Electrorecycler in the Business Creation category, Egoin for Innovation, Permar for Globalisation, Cookplay Cuisine in the Creative Biscay round, and Irrintzi Soluciones Avanzadas for Social Innovation. Lointek Heavy Industries scooped the prize awarded to a spin-off company and RETA took the start-up prize.
The awards were handed over by Unai Rementería, General Deputy of the Regional Government of Biscay, Imanol Pradales, Regional Councillor for Economic and Regional Development, Ainara Basurko, Director of Beaz, Carolina Pérez Toledo, Chair of AED, and Iñaki Garcinuño, Chair of Cebek. The event brought more than 400 businesses together in the BEC for the sixth Biscay Business Conference and the ON Bizkaia 2017 awards ceremony.
